December has been a key to consolidating my re-alignment in 2021, and setting myself up for 2022. I’m Joao Nina Matos, a 17 year old entrepreneur, developer & student, based in Singapore, and this is my newsletter! This has been one of my favourite issues so far, so I hope you enjoy it too!

🏔 December Wrap-Up
December was all about leveraging the progress & exposure to web3 I gathered in November, and launching projects - namely Emporia & Minthouse (more below). The end of December I spent much needed time with Family in Portugal (some of which I hadn’t seen in 2 years), and time in the countryside (which unfortunately I don’t get in Singapore). Did little work but made leaps and bounds of progress in internal balance; I reflected back on where I was 6 months ago on my notion dashboard (where I manage all my work) and the difference was huge, and tangible - it was great to be able to see change firsthand.
🌿 Minthouse
I launched Minthouse, a web3 agency helping artists develop smart contracts for their NFT projects, and planning & growing their projects. We’ve already got a client, a couple promising leads, and I’m excited to see this venture through. If you want to learn more/chat, drop me a line!
👉 We write smart contracts for NFT projects, as well as plan & grow projects
👉 Currently looking to grow the team! DM me if you know someone!
👉 Thinking about an NFT project? DM me!
🤖 Emporia
I’ve also been building Emporia, an ed-tech platform to help teach kids fundamental ML concepts through a scratch-like environment, in partnership with Brilliant Labs. Currently we’re finishing up a prototype and filing for grants to secure funding to build out the platform in full.
👉 Canada-based ed-tech project
👉 Already trialed in the classroom!
👉 Working on more development before further rollout
🌄 Breathing Out
After getting those two projects off the ground, I was off to Portugal to spend the holidays with Family for the first time in a while and took a little break. It really helped depressurise internally and gave me some much needed space. That created the perfect headroom for me to set myself up for what’s next.
I also spent a lot more time on breathing techniques, and have made something of my own which I can only describe as euphoric (when done properly) - it’s hard to put in words, but I’m always happy to chat more about it, so feel free to reach out!
🎯 What’s Next
I’m really excited for 2022, between big personal goals but also milestones in my life including finishing high school, (hopefully) traveling over the summer, and later military enlistment. I have big goals for 2022, and am hoping to leverage much of the infrastructure that I created for myself in 2021 to execute on my projects and my work, and reach my ambitions (which are by no means small.)
👉 January is Minthouse-focused
👉 I have ETHDenver coming up in February
👉 Followed by ETHBarcelona which I hope to speak at in March
👉 Hoping to get Emporia v1 rolling out by March/April
👉 Potentially looking at a TEDx too (later in the year)
💻 Product of the Month
I have to give a big shoutout to Buildspace, an awesome platform with entirely free courses on the technical behind the scenes of web3 smart contracts, defi, DAOs, etc. - it was through them I deployed my first smart contract on the Ethereum test net. They’ve got a strong community of builders in their discord, and an open-source style course which ensures corrections & updates are consistently being made to amend & improve the various courses. If you’re thinking of trying your hand at web3, they’re definitely worth checking out! They’ve got a pretty clean design philosophy too, which is always appreciated!
That’s December closed up! I’m really excited about pushing these projects forward, and executing on my various plans, and hopefully seeing things continue to come together. If you know interesting people in web3 who might be interested in working with/for Minthouse, please do let me know!
